Stuart lands goldChester Chronicle Series - 29 Nov 2001TEENAGER Stuart Bloor made quite a splash at the Senior Disabled Short Course Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. The 14-year-old recorded personal best times in all six of the individual races he entered and also won gold in the team medley in a national record time. Stuart, who trains four times a week with mainstream swimmers at the Crewe Flyers club, was one of 245 disabled competitors at the event. As well as his exploits in the team medley, Stuart missed out on a medal in the 50m backstroke by .04 of a second and was just 3.5 seconds behind the winner, who achieved a new world record. He missed out on a place on the rostrum in the 100m backstroke by 1.5 seconds. In both categories, the top two were Paralympians who took part in the Sydney Games, while the bronze medallist was an established swimmer. Wheelchair-bound Stuart is now looking forward to two events early next year. In January he will be part of a 16-strong squad of disabled swimmers from across the North West competing in the Dutch Open. Then in March he will be out to further improve on his times when he enters the BT Junior finals in Darlington . |
