On-song Flyers end on high note at final galaCrewe Chronicle – 26 Feb 2003A TRIO of Crewe Flyers starlets set the tone for a string of successes at the final day of the North Midlands Age Group Championships on Saturday.Daniel Parry, Michael Sharkey and Gareth Payne all won gold in the 400m Individual Medley s in their respective age groups. They were followed on to the winner's podium by Jason Owen, Oliver Wigglesworth, Abbie Henderson and Elisabeth Kilcourse, while Payne and Parry added further gold’s to their personal hauls. Silvers were won by Payne, Louise Thomas and Michael Sharkey, while Parry won two bronzes. Other bronze medals went to Owen Davies, Lee Hillier, Abbie Henderson, Stephanie Parker and Ian Cowburn. A host of Flyers were placed fifth to seventh in various events. They were: Jamie Johnson, Jonathan Bricknell, Abby Wigglesworth, Louise Thomas (all fifth), Kira Wood, Jason Owen, Alexandra Parker, Joseph Wood, Christopher Alcock and Gareth Payne (sixth), Jason Owen and Tiffany McNair (seventh). In the Open Championships, gold’s were won by Gareth Payne and Oliver Wigglesworth and silvers by Michael Sharkey and Gareth Payne. Daniel Parry, Gareth Payne, Elisabeth Kilcourse, Ian Cowburn, Louise Thomas and Lee Hillier were all placed fourth to eighth. Trophies were also awarded for the top swimmer in each age group over the four different galas. Four Flyers finished on top with Joseph Wood (10 yrs), Jason Owen (13), Daniel Parry (14) and Gareth Payne (17 plus) coming away with honours. At the end of the championships, Flyers' final tally was an impressive 53 gold’s, 29 silvers and 30 bronzes. |
