Flyers splash out to reach gold standard

CREWE Flyers showed they can compete against the county's best in the penultimate Cheshire Age Groups and Championships gala at Macclesfield.
Flyers came away with three gold medals with Michael Sharkey winning the aged 16 years' 100m breaststroke in 1 min 10.10 seconds; Joseph Wood the 10 years' 50m backstroke in 39.21 seconds and Abbie Henderson the 10 years' 100m butterfly in 1 min 23.88 seconds.
Daniel Parry picked up two silvers in the 13 years' 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, while Oliver Wigglesworth was second in the 16 years' 50m backstroke as was Abbie Henderson in the 10 years' 50m freestyle and James Cowburn in the 12 years' 200m freestyle. James also achieved a national qualifying time.
Parry also picked up two bronze medals in the 13 years' 200m freestyle and 50m back-stroke, while Christopher Alcock bagged bronze in the 11 years 100m breaststroke.
Several other Flyers were 'placed'. Colette Foster, Elisabeth Kilcourse, Louise Thomas, Jason Owen, Gareth Payne and Oliver Wigglesworth all finished fourth, Bryony Carragher, Colette Foster, Terry Cowburn, Gareth Payne took fifths and Oliver Wigglesworth, Abby Wigglesworth, Owen Davies, Colette Foster and Louise Thomas finished events in sixth spot.
Completing the roll of honour were Alexandra Parker, Joseph Wood and Michael Sharkey who finished seventh and Jonathan Bricknell and Daniel Carragher were eighth.
