Flyers' fab four on song in championship finale

THE final event in the Cheshire County Age Groups Championships at the Europa Pool in Birkenhead saw Crewe Flyers make quite a splash. Flyers' fab four were Abbie Henderson, James Cowburn, Louise Thomas and Gareth Payne who all won gold’s.
Abbie touched home first in the 10 years' 400m freestyle in 5minutes 09.20seconds and James won the 12 years' 200m backstroke in 2m 28.28s.
Louise's success came in the 16 years' 800m freestyle in 10m 09.14s, while Gareth triumphed in the 400m open freestyle.
Louise also won a silver in the 400m freestyle with other second spots being achieved by club mates Michael Sharkey in the 16 years' 200m breast-stroke, Daniel Parry in the 13 years' 200m breaststroke and Oliver Wigglesworth in the 16 years' 200m back-stroke.
Elisabeth Kilcourse and Terry Cow-burn completed the medal haul with bronzes in the 13 years' 800m freestyle and 14 years' 200m backstroke respectively.
Terry Cowburn, Owen Davies and Elisabeth Kilcourse also claimed fourth places and Christopher Alcock, Daniel Parry, Michael Sharkey and Stephanie Parker fifths.
Alexandra Parker and Owen Davies claimed a sixth-place finish apiece while Jamie Johnson and Jason Owen achieved eighths.
National qualifying times were achieved by Michael Sharkey in the 200m breaststroke, James Cowburn in the 400m freestyle and Abbie Henderson in the 400m Individual Medley .
In the Senior Championships, Gareth Payne won gold’s in the 400m freestyle and the 1,500m freestyle. Michael Sharkey was second in the 200m breaststroke and Oliver Wigglesworth third in the 200m backstroke. In the Junior Championship, Michael Sharkey won the 100m breaststroke.
Awards were presented to the top six swimmers in each age group who won the most Bagcat points during the championships.
Shields were awarded to: Joseph Wood, 10yr, 3rd; Owen Davies, 11yr, 6th; Daniel Parry, 13yr, 5th; Michael Sharkey, 16yr, 3rd; Abbie Henderson, 10yr, 1st; Elisabeth Kilcourse, 13yr, 5th; Louise Thomas, 16yr, 2nd.
