Flyers lap up the glory

CREWE Flyers had a terrific weekend at the North Midlands Open Meet event in Macclesfield with a third-placed finish.

The Crewe team scooped 15 gold’s, 13 silvers and 24 bronze medals to complete a very successful event.

Top-eight finishers were awarded with points and Crewe had an excellent tally of 103 after some superb swims which included many personal bests.

Colette Foster was one of the big winners as she won gold in four events and silver in another four.

Other multiple gold winners included Terry Cow-burn (3) Joseph Wood (3) and Bethany Mayer (2).

Sarah Quartermaine, Michael Eastwood and Gareth Payne also triumphed with top finishes.

Silver medals were collected by Gareth Payne in four events, Stephanie Parker in two events and Joseph Wood, Daniel Parry and Terry Cowburn.

Of the two dozen bronze medals, Daniel Carragher and Daniel Parry picked up four apiece, with Terry Cowburn earning three and Bethany Mayer, Jason Owen and Stephanie Parker two each. The others went to Michael Eastwood, Cameron McFahn, Colette Foster, Joseph Wood, Sarah Quartermaine, Gareth Payne and Ian Cowburn.

Other Flyers achieved vital points by finishing in positions from fourth to eighth. They were: Austin Barton, Chris Alcock, Lee Hillier, Russell Gibbons, Jamie Johnson, Christopher Palmer, Amy Buckley, Tom Roberts, Daniel Carragher, Rebecca Small, Emma Kinsey, Alexandra Parker and Lisa McKenna.

In the Open Championships, Sarah Quartermaine and Terry Cowburn grabbed gold’s, while Gareth Payne picked up six silvers. Terry Cowburn picked up two bronzes with Sarah Quartermaine, Stephanie Parker, Daniel Parry and Ian Cowburn winning one apiece.

The Flyers squad are now busily preparing for the Cheshire Championships in March.
