SANDBACH Sharks swimmer Samuel Davies starred at the Cheshire County Championships, winning eight gold.

Crewe Flyers were also in fine form at the final weekend of the championships.

Golden girl Abbie Henderson picked up three gold’s in the 11-years' 110m butterfly, 200m Individual Medley and the 400m freestyle in which she set a new event record. Team-mates Beth-any Mayer and Colette Foster also earned gold’s.

Silver medals were won by Michael Eastwood, Austin Barton, Bryony Carragher, Stephanie Parker and Henderson, while Christopher Alcock and Daniel Parry joined Barton, Eastwood, Mayer, Foster and Parker in adding bronzes to Flyers' medal haul.

A string of swimmers were placed fourth to eighth, including Joseph Wood, Elisabeth Kilcourse, Daniel Carragher, Christopher Palmer and Jason Owen.

In the Men's Open, Michael Sharkey won silver in the 200m breaststroke and Lee Hillier was fourth in the 100m breaststroke.

Bagcat shields were presented to swimmers who finished in the top six of the overall championship in their respective age groups.

Abbie Henderson won the 11-years' category with Colette Foster second and Joseph Wood fourth. Bethany Mayer and Bryony Carragher were fourth and fifth respectively in the 10 years' group, Daniel Parry sixth in the 14 years' category and Stephanie Parker third in the 15 years' section.

Chief coach Steve Milhench said: 'All the swimmers have worked really hard for their achievements in the County Championships and deserve their success.

'We are now busy training ahead of the Northern Counties Championships in May and June.'
