A DISABLED swimmer is having a leg AMPUTATED in a bid to make the British Paralympic squad.
Stuart Bloor, 20 – who has spina bifida – missed out on qualifying for next year’s Beijing Paralympics due to terrible pain in his right leg.

He is having the limb removed to boost his attempts to qualify for the 2012 London Games.

His leg often became badly infected due to the condition – caused when vertebrae do not fuse correctly in the womb.

Stuart, of Crewe, Cheshire, said: “I know it’s a desperate step but at least it should free me from excruciating pain.

“Swimming in the London Games is my dream and I don’t think I’d have any chance if I didn’t have my leg amputated.”

He hopes to be back in the water within a month of the op.
